Vaccination Status When Travelling Abroad

Posted on May 20th, 2021

From 17th May, patients will be able to demonstrate their COVID vaccination status when travelling abroad through the free NHS App, which can be accessed through smart devices such as a mobile or a tablet. Proof of your vaccination status will be shown through the App. It is recommended that you register with the App before booking international travel, at least two weeks before your departure date, once you’ve had a full course of vaccinations.

If you do not have access to a smart phone and know that the country you are travelling to requires proof of COVID-19 vaccination status, you can call the NHS helpline on 119 and ask for a letter to be posted to you. This must be at least 5 working days after you’ve completed your course of the vaccine. It is expected that the letter may take up to five working days to reach you. The letter will be sent to the address registered with your GP. The 119 call handler will not be able to see your address to check this with you. If you have recently moved house, make sure you’ve given us your new address before calling 119.

Please do not contact us about your COVID 19 vaccination status. We cannot provide letters showing your vaccination status.

To use the App, you must be:

  • Registered with a GP in England
  • Aged 13 or over

If you’re 13-15, you will need to contact us to request access to GP online services before you can use the App.

Please see www.nhs.uk for App help and support.
